Turkey to launch specialized courthouse units targeting online crime and disinformation

Turkey's Justice Ministry, led by Akın Gürlek, plans to establish new units called "Digital Environment Security and Disinformation Combat Bureaus" inside the chief public prosecutor offices of 175 judicial centers. These bureaus will be staffed by prosecutors with expertise in digital platforms, tasked with closely monitoring criminal content and activities that encourage illegal behavior online. Their mandate includes faster identification of suspects and quicker initiation of legal proceedings.
The measures aim to shield children and youths from exposure to crime, violence, abuse, and privacy violations on the internet. Additionally, the units will enhance inter-agency cooperation to counteract deliberate disinformation campaigns that could undermine social peace and public order.
