Turkey unveils $5.3 billion ten-year farm and food financing scheme
Turkey announced a $5.3 billion program to fund agricultural and food-processing projects over the next decade, with an initial $750 million from the World Bank available this year.
Turkey has launched a ten-year financing program worth $5.3 billion to boost agriculture and food-processing investments, according to Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı. The World Bank approved an initial tranche of $750 million, slated for distribution to firms this year to fund construction, machinery and equipment purchases. The government has already signed financing agreements and will publish application guidelines in the coming days.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented the scheme in May as the second phase of the country's agricultural strategy, seeking to coordinate production, processing and market channels. Yumaklı highlighted that Turkey's agricultural output reached a record $83.2 billion in 2025, ranking seventh worldwide, and projected a harvest exceeding 140 million tons this year. Recent talks with China, Germany and Russia have produced agreements to enhance food-security and open export markets.
Why it matters
The financing plan could transform Turkey's agri-food sector, increasing production, processing capacity and export opportunities.
