Turkey unveils new Black Sea grain corridor plan, talks with Russia and Ukraine
Turkey's foreign minister said Ankara has drafted a scheme to restart safe grain shipments through the Black Sea and is discussing it with both Russia and Ukraine.
At a press briefing in Istanbul, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan revealed that Turkey has crafted a plan to enable the safe passage of grain across the Black Sea. The proposal is being shared with both Russian and Ukrainian authorities as part of efforts to restore the export channel that once moved about 33 million metric tons of Ukrainian grain. Turkey and the United Nations previously helped broker the 2022 Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was halted after Russia pulled out in 2023 over concerns about its own food and fertilizer shipments.
Fidan stressed that, should the necessary conditions arise, Turkey will work toward a new deal similar to the original arrangement. The move reflects Ankara's ongoing willingness to facilitate humanitarian trade amid the ongoing conflict.
