Turkish carriers suspend Iran routes as new U.S. aviation sanctions take effect
Turkish Airlines, Pegasus and AJet have halted all flights to and from Iran after U.S. sanctions targeting the Iranian aviation sector became active.
From 21 September onward, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus and AJet stopped all services to Iran after U.S. sanctions on Iran's aviation sector were enforced. The measures prohibit the use of both Boeing and Airbus aircraft that incorporate U.S. components, forcing the Turkish carriers to suspend routes until at least March. A source familiar with the issue confirmed that the sanctions left the airlines with no alternative aircraft.
Meanwhile, a Turkish official said Mahan Air is the sole Iranian airline currently prohibited from flying to Turkey, allowing other Iranian carriers to continue limited operations. The flight cancellations come as Turkey recently revoked the banking licence of Iran's Bank Mellat and seized Golden Global Investment Bank following U.S. accusations of fund transfers to Tehran. These steps underscore the growing strain between Turkey and Iran under U.S. pressure.
