Turkish foreign minister to discuss deepening ties with Azerbaijan in Baku
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will spend two days in Baku meeting his Azerbaijani counterpart and the defence minister to boost strategic cooperation and trade.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will travel to Baku on Sept. 15 and 16 for a two-day diplomatic mission aimed at deepening strategic ties with Azerbaijan. He will meet Azerbaijan’s foreign minister Ceyhun Bayramov, defence minister Zakir Hasanov, and be received by President Ilham Aliyev. Discussions will focus on raising bilateral trade from one outlet $7 billion to $15 billion, reviewing joint energy and transportation initiatives, and expanding defence-industry cooperation.
The talks will also cover cooperation in multilateral forums such as the Organization of Turkic States, as Turkey prepares to host the next leaders’ summit. Fidan will reaffirm Turkey’s backing of the 2025 peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia and support for reconstruction in the Karabakh region. The visit underscores the “one nation, two states” relationship that has grown since Azerbaijan’s 1991 independence.
