Turkish police detain dozens in raids against FETÖ cells and Daesh funding network

Turkish security forces arrested 39 people in coordinated operations targeting Gülenist networks and a Daesh financing scheme across Ankara, Izmir and other provinces.

Turkish authorities carried out simultaneous counter-terrorism operations that resulted in the detention of 39 suspects linked to the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) and the Islamic State (Daesh). In Izmir, police detained 16 individuals, among them three dismissed officers, an active teacher and ten people accused of running a social-media propaganda network. Ankara prosecutors ordered the arrest of 10 persons alleged to have used the ByLock messaging app, a tool associated with FETÖ, while continuing to search for one remaining suspect.

A parallel investigation into Daesh financing identified 16 suspects, leading to 14 arrests in raids across multiple provinces; the probe relied on tips from the German Embassy and financial intelligence from MASAK, tracing donations collected via Telegram to support Daesh fighters in Syria. The suspects include two Syrian nationals and one Uzbek national, and the alleged funds were meant to free Daesh members held by PKK/YPG-controlled camps in northern Syria.

The arrests highlight Turkey's intensified crackdown on domestic extremist networks and cross-border terrorist financing.
