Turning Point Action ramps up Iowa outreach to influence 2028 Republican primary

Turning Point Action made a visible splash at the Iowa State Fair, where its activists shouted at Democratic politicians and operated a booth that registered voters, handed out merchandise and recruited people for social gatherings. The organization’s chief operating officer, Tyler Bowyer, said the effort is intended to lay the groundwork for the 2028 Republican presidential primary by placing at least one staffer in each of Iowa’s 99 counties and driving high caucus participation.

In addition to Iowa, the group has grown its footprint in New Hampshire and Nevada during this year’s midterms, positioning itself to benefit a likely JD Vance candidacy, which its leaders, including Erika Kirk, are prepared to endorse. Some Iowa Republicans acknowledge the boost to grassroots organizing, while others question whether the buzz will translate into real influence. Turning Point Action has hired additional staff, doubled its manpower after a surprise local win, and continues to promote its culture-war messaging at the fair. The organization stresses it will remain non-committal until a candidate officially announces, but it aims to be ready to campaign for whoever it eventually backs.
