Turów mine unions launch collective dispute over staffing and contract guarantees

All trade unions at the Turów coal mine have entered a collective dispute, demanding that signed agreements be honoured, employment levels restored and long-term guarantees provided for workers.

At the Turów lignite mine, all active trade unions have initiated a collective dispute, citing violations of earlier agreements and calling for the reinstatement of the negotiated workforce size together with long-term job security guarantees. Wojciech Ilnicki, head of NSZZ "Solidarność" at the mine, stressed his willingness to negotiate but demanded decisive steps from the employer and the state. PiS lawmaker Edward Siarka warned that the clash might extend to other coal-mining and power-generation units owned by PGE.

Economist Zbigniew Krysiak warned that current actions could lead to organisational restructuring contrary to prior assurances. The dispute’s resolution now hinges on upcoming negotiations between the three-party negotiating teams, with a deadline set for the unions’ demands and a joint meeting scheduled in the near term.

Why it matters

The standoff threatens Poland's coal output and could ripple into other state-run energy facilities, affecting national energy security.
