Turtle nesting in Negeri Sembilan triples over five years, officials say
The number of turtle nests recorded in Negeri Sembilan rose from 13 in 2020 to 45 in 2025, covering green and hawksbill turtles along several Port Dickson beaches.
According to Kasim Tawe of the State Fisheries Department, Negeri Sembilan saw turtle nests rise from 13 in 2020 to 45 in 2025, involving both green and hawksbill turtles along Port Dickson’s coastline. The nesting area now spans multiple beaches, from Tanjung Tuan through Tanjung Gemuk, and egg production increased to 5,552 in 2025 with 4,371 hatchlings. While the NGO Aktivis Pemuliharaan Marin Malaysia proposes designating Tanjung Gemuk as a protected landing zone, officials note the beach is already a public space managed by the Port Dickson Municipal Council, which handles cleanliness and facilities.
They stress that public education and minimizing disturbances are key to safeguarding the turtles. The Fisheries Department has also appointed the management of Glory Beach Resort as a private conservation centre to support protection efforts, requiring cooperation from local authorities and the community.
