Tuscany launches €3,000 subsidy to make egg freezing more accessible
The Tuscan regional council approved a law granting women up to €3,000 toward social egg-freezing, aiming to lower the cost barrier.
On September 23 the Tuscan regional council enacted a law that provides a €3,000 public contribution for social egg-freezing, targeting women aged 25-39 who are residents for a minimum of one year and whose ISEE does not exceed €30,000. The subsidy is intended to cover the full cost of the procedure, associated medication, and may also fund a repeat cycle or storage of the frozen eggs. Applications will be managed through public calls by local health authorities, and treatments must be performed at either a public facility or a private centre accredited by the regional health service.
Should applications outstrip available funds, the allocation will prioritize women with the lowest ISEE, using age as a secondary criterion when ISEE levels are equal. This move follows similar experimental support schemes introduced earlier in Puglia and Lazio, reflecting a broader Italian trend toward later parenthood.
