Tuya Smart unveils Doova, a mobile AI assistant for independent seniors
Tuya Smart presented Doova, a wheeled AI robot that can navigate a home, answer voice calls for help and connect relatives via live video.
At the IFA 2026 exhibition in Berlin, Tuya Smart introduced Doova, a compact robot designed to assist seniors who prefer to stay at home. Equipped with LDS LiDAR, a four-mic array and AI-driven posture analysis, Doova can move to a person who says, "Hey Tuya, help," and if there is no response within 60 seconds, it triggers an emergency protocol that notifies relatives through a live video call. Beyond safety, the robot runs a multimodal large language model for natural conversation, medication reminders, smart-home commands and even flags potentially fraudulent messages.
Future updates aim to add item-finding and home-monitoring scans, while the unit returns to its dock when the battery is low. The launch did not reveal pricing, availability or detailed data-handling rules, leaving questions about how audio-video streams are stored and who can access them. Analysts suggest that while Doova illustrates a shift toward mobile AI helpers, its real-world reliability and privacy safeguards will determine adoption among families caring for aging relatives.
