TV host warns Ukrainian grain influx could threaten Romanian farms amid EU accession
Corina Drăgotescu warned that Ukraine’s entry into the EU may flood the market with cheap grain, endangering Romania’s agriculture.
During the program Ai Aflat! with Ionuț Cristache, Corina Drăgotescu cautioned that Ukraine’s rapid progress toward EU membership may introduce a massive influx of Ukrainian grain, which she described as a “tsunami” for Romanian agriculture. She claimed the cheap imports could drive Romanian farmers out of the market, potentially leading to food-security concerns. While acknowledging political support for Ukraine, Drăgotescu questioned whether that support truly serves Romanian interests.
She also criticized the rhetoric surrounding a possible union with Moldova, calling it a political catchphrase lacking realistic assessment. The commentator urged a more careful evaluation of both issues before policy decisions are made.
