Darell Rodriguez, a 26-year-old security guard, was shot in the chest at the 53rd Street/7th Avenue subway station in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday afternoon. A masked attacker fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended. Rodriguez's twin brother, Derick, who lives in Waco, Texas, realized something was wrong when a text to Darell failed to deliver and later received a call from an NYPD detective confirming his brother's death.
The family described Darell in a recent photo smiling with his brothers Derick and Gabriel before the tragedy. Police indicate the shooting stemmed from a disagreement on the platform, but the motive is still unknown. NYPD has released images of a suspect wearing a red hoodie and black face mask as the hunt for the shooter continues.
