Twitch adds opt-out switch to block Amazon from using streamers' data for generative AI

Twitch has introduced a "Training for Generative AI" toggle that lets individual broadcasters prevent Amazon, its parent company, from incorporating their streams, archived videos, clips, chat logs and other channel media into generative-AI model training. The setting was previously active automatically, prompting criticism from creators who opposed the use of their labor for AI development. If a streamer opts out, their content will no longer be used for future model training, though it may still support other AI-driven services like automated captioning.

Twitch clarifies that its AutoMod moderation tool does not retain user data for generative purposes, and that certain AI safety features cannot be disabled on a per-user basis without weakening platform security. To activate the opt-out, streamers must visit their account settings and switch off the new toggle. Content posted in another creator's chat will be governed by that channel's own opt-out status.
