Two 15-year-old girls detained in California over alleged high-school shooting plot

Police in Riverside County arrested two 15-year-old girls who allegedly researched and planned an attack on Corona High School, though no weapons were found.

The Corona Police Department, assisted by the FBI and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, arrested two 15-year-old girls after a tip about online chatter suggesting a planned school shooting. Investigators determined the suspects, who attend separate high schools in Riverside County, had spent several months researching previous attacks and debating ways to acquire weapons for an unspecified future date at Corona High School.

No firearms or other weapons were recovered during searches of several homes. Both girls are being held on charges of conspiracy to commit murder while the Riverside County District Attorney's Office evaluates the evidence. Police have not released the girls' names or detailed the exact nature of the alleged plan, and they have not indicated that an attack was imminent. The case involved coordination among the FBI, local law enforcement, and the Corona-Norco Unified School District.
