Two 16-year-old teens arrested after Brooklyn carjacking spree that endangered a police officer
Two teenage suspects were captured after a night-long carjacking rampage in Brooklyn that ended with one trying to run a police officer over.
Around 7:40 p.m. on Thursday, two 16-year-old boys cornered a 24-year-old on East 16th Street near Avenue P in Homecrest, flashing a gun and attempting a robbery that failed when the victim fled. They then forced a 23-year-old from his Toyota Camry on East 15 Street near Avenue O and fled in the stolen car, which soon crashed. One teen was arrested at the scene, while the other pursued a 54-year-old woman on Kimball Street, seized her Toyota RAV-4, and headed toward East 100 Street.
Police blocked the route, but the teen drove onto the sidewalk at an officer, prompting the officer to fire at the vehicle. The teen escaped injury, continued driving until crashing at Pennsylvania and Wortman avenues, where he was finally detained. One suspect faces robbery charges; the other is charged with criminal possession of stolen property and obstruction of governmental administration. The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division is investigating the episode.
