Two 17-year-olds granted bail in Sydney gang-rape case, third remains detained

In a Sydney children’s court, three 17-year-old boys were charged with multiple sexual offences stemming from an alleged prolonged assault of a teenage girl on the night of 16 August. The primary suspect, a private-school student, faces the most serious charges, including aggravated sexual assault, and did not apply for bail, staying in juvenile detention. Two other teens, charged with sexual assault in company and common assault, were released on bail with conditions such as daily police check-ins, home detention, and restrictions on contact and travel.

Their defence highlighted family support, school commitments, and lack of prior convictions, but the judge deemed the conditions sufficient to mitigate risk. The court noted the victim must continue her upcoming exams while coping with the trauma. All three cases are scheduled for a hearing in October.
