Two beluga whales die at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium after recent intake
Shedd Aquarium reported the deaths of two beluga whales on Wednesday, one of which had arrived from Marineland earlier this month.
The Chicago aquarium confirmed that two belugas died Wednesday afternoon despite immediate rescue attempts. One of the deceased, Rain, was transferred from Marineland in mid-August, while the other, Beethoven, was already part of the Shedd collection. The facility had recently received ten belugas from Marineland as part of a large relocation effort. Earlier, another Marineland beluga named Peekachu died after severe dehydration. Shedd is conducting necropsies and tests to determine any link between the incidents.
