Two brothers restrained after gun threats and violent behavior on Melbourne-Doha flight
Two male passengers were subdued on a Qatar Airways flight from Melbourne to Doha after threatening crew with a gun and assaulting staff; they were handed to Qatari authorities on arrival.
A Qatar Airways flight operating as VA7 from Melbourne to Doha was disrupted when two brothers became extremely restless shortly after boarding, repeatedly moving around the cabin and rummaging through luggage. Their behavior escalated into a heated argument and physical fight about six hours before landing, during which they threatened to use a gun and to kill people. Cabin crew, aided by several male passengers, restrained one brother who was yelling, spitting, kicking and head-butting a flight attendant, while another passenger helped subdue the second brother.
The aircraft landed safely in Doha, where Qatari authorities arrested both men. Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia released statements confirming the arrests and reiterating that passenger and crew safety remain a top priority.
