Two Chinese giant pandas set to arrive at Zoo Atlanta in coming days
Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that two giant pandas will reach Zoo Atlanta within the next few days, reviving the animal loan program between China and the United States.
During a briefing at the White House, Xi Jinping said that two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, will be delivered to Zoo Atlanta in the coming days, signaling a fresh start for the China-U.S. panda loan program. The announcement came before diplomatic talks with Donald Trump and highlighted the animals as a symbol of friendship between the two nations. Both pandas were born at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding and will be managed under a conservation agreement with the China Wildlife Conservation Association.
Their arrival follows the 2024 return of four pandas to China, which had left the United States without any pandas for several months. Zoo Atlanta CEO Raymond B. King previously expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting the zoo’s honor in caring for the species. The new arrivals are expected to meet the American public shortly after their arrival.
