Two construction workers killed in separate NHAI site accidents in Jammu and Kashmir
Two laborers died in unrelated incidents at National Highways Authority of India projects in Samba and Jammu districts on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, two separate accidents at National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) construction sites in Jammu and Kashmir resulted in fatalities. Gotam Sahu, a 25-year-old worker from Bihar, was killed instantly when a concrete structure gave way while he was laying a bridge pier on the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra project in the Jakh area of Samba district; a fellow Bihar worker was also hurt. NHAI project director Rajiv Kumar said Sahu’s wife will receive Rs 5 lakh from the contractor, another Rs 5 lakh from the state administration, and a further Rs 5 lakh will be deposited in her account.
In a different incident, 45-year-old Budhi Singh of Ramban died after falling from a height at the Sidhra Tawi Bridge site near Jammu and being taken to Government Medical College and Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. Both incidents highlight safety concerns at ongoing highway projects in the region.
