Two dead and thirteen injured in residential fire in Lucca's San Vito district
A blaze in a San Vito apartment building in Lucca killed two people and wounded thirteen, including children, after firefighters and emergency services intervened.
A residential fire broke out on the ground floor of a building at Via Bertini and Via Corsica in Lucca's San Vito area, prompting three fire brigades, ambulance units and other rescue teams to act. The flames forced an evacuation, during which a newborn and other occupants were rescued from balconies. After the operation, two people were confirmed dead and thirteen were hospitalized with injuries ranging from critical to minor, including several children.
Patients were distributed among hospitals in Lucca, Pisa and the Versilia coast, with one woman in her fifties transferred in critical condition to Pisa's Cisanello Hospital. Mayor Mario Pardini posted a message of mourning, pledged support for the affected families, and thanked the fire service, medical responders, volunteer organizations and law-enforcement agencies for their coordinated effort.
