Two dead, including a high-school student, after a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus in Central Florida

A 10th-grade student and a Jeep driver were killed when a Chevrolet Malibu crossed the center line and collided with a Winter Haven High School bus early Monday in Central Florida.

Police say a Chevrolet Malibu crossed the center line of Winter Haven Road at about 6 a.m. on Monday, colliding head-on with a Winter Haven High School bus that was transporting 37 students. The force of the crash ripped a tire from the bus and forced it into an oncoming Jeep, after which the bus rolled off the side of the road. The driver of the Jeep was killed, as was a 10th-grade student riding the bus.

Five additional people involved in the wreck required hospital treatment. Sheriff Grady Judd described the scene as a horrible and tragic morning for the community. The accident occurred in Polk County, Central Florida, near the cities of Tampa and Orlando.
