Two directors and a manager charged with bribery at Plopeni and Bucharest mechanical plants
Directors Tiberiu Alexandru Pîrvu and Liliana Sorescu of Uzina Mecanică Plopeni admitted guilt in plea deals, while Mihai Rafiu, head of Uzina Mecanică București, faces bribery charges.
Prosecutors from the Direcția Națională Anticorupție have charged senior officials from two state-run mechanical factories with repeated bribery. Tiberiu Alexandru Pîrvu, the general manager of Uzina Mecanică Plopeni, and Liliana Sorescu, its commercial director, entered plea agreements that include suspended prison terms and mandatory community work. Mihai Rafiu, the general manager of Uzina Mecanică București, is alleged to have taken regular cash installments to secure contract approvals.
The investigations also implicate an administrator of several commercial companies for both giving and receiving bribes. Following a July raid, authorities seized cash and foreign currency from Pîrvu’s home, leading to a provisional asset freeze. All three cases have been submitted to the Tribunalul Prahova for trial.
