Two fatalities confirmed after small plane crashes near Trawsfynydd in north Wales
A light aircraft that failed to land at Caernarfon Airport was found crashed in a remote area near Trawsfynydd, with both occupants dead.
After a scheduled flight from an English airfield failed to reach Caernarfon Airport, North Wales Police were alerted just after 12:00 BST. Search teams using both aircraft and ground units scoured the countryside and eventually discovered the downed light aircraft in a remote location near Trawsfynydd, close to Blaenau Ffestiniog in Gwynedd. Both occupants were found deceased and identified at the crash site.
The Air Accidents Investigations Branch has sent a team of investigators to determine the cause of the incident. Police chief superintendent Owain Llewellyn described the operation as challenging and thanked the agencies involved for their professionalism, while offering condolences to the victims' families.
