Two Giant Pandas Arrive in Atlanta Under New China‑US Loan Agreement
Ping Ping, a male born in 2020, and Fu Shuang, a female also born in 2020, were flown to Atlanta on a dedicated Boeing 777 after departing Chengdu, China. Their arrival follows an announcement by Xi Jinping during a White House briefing with Donald Trump that China will loan the pandas to Zoo Atlanta. The loan is set for ten years and the animals will spend roughly a month in a biosecure quarantine facility before joining the exhibit.
Raymond B. King, president and CEO of Zoo Atlanta, hailed the event as a historic milestone for the city and the state of Georgia. The pandas join a short list of U.S. zoos that house giant pandas.
