Two individuals detained after 63-year-old medicine trader found murdered in Kanpur flat
Police say a 63-year-old wholesale medicine dealer was killed in his Kanpur apartment and two people have been taken for questioning.
A 63-year-old wholesale medicine distributor, identified as Vineet Minocha, was found dead in a pool of blood inside his residence at Ratan Orbit Apartment, Indira Nagar, Kanpur, early Sunday morning. Authorities estimate the murder took place between 10:30 pm on Saturday and 3 am on Sunday, with a sharp-edged weapon used to slit his throat and cause additional wounds. When his son Subrat, daughter-in-law Shalu and their six-year-old grandson returned from a party around 3 am, they discovered the flat’s main door ajar and the victim inside, prompting a call to Kalyanpur police.
A forensic team collected evidence, and DCP (West) Rajesh Kumar Pandey confirmed that two individuals were detained for questioning after CCTV footage showed them entering the flat. Police have also taken the building’s digital video recorder and entry register to trace movements around the time of the killing. The family, which includes wife Punita, a marriage counsellor, has reported no known personal enmity, and investigators are probing whether the victim may have opened the door for someone he knew.
