Two killed and eleven injured as bulls run wild at Huamantla festival

The Mexican town of Huamantla hosted its traditional running of the bulls festival when 21 bulls were let loose on the streets, drawing crowds eager to dodge the animals. Juan Manuel Filomeno Herrera, 29, was gored through the chest and leg and later died, and Luis Xolocotzi Ramirez, 57, succumbed to head and chest wounds after being caught by a bull. Video showed Herrera trying to evade a charging bull before being thrown and left bleeding on the road.

A woman was also knocked down but escaped serious harm. Officials reported that eleven other participants were injured but survived. The fatalities have prompted public questioning of whether the long-standing custom has become overly dangerous.
