Two killed as seven-storey construction collapses in Hyderabad’s Madhapur

A seven-storey building under construction in Anjaiah Nagar, Madhapur collapsed on Saturday, killing two people and prompting rescue efforts.

On Saturday afternoon a seven-storey building being erected on a 50-square-yard site in Anjaiah Nagar, Madhapur, collapsed, leaving at least two dead. Rescue teams from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency and Madhapur police arrived quickly, clearing debris and discovering one corpse while still looking for a possible second victim. The collapse also impacted several adjacent structures.

According to HYDRAA chief A.V. Ranganath, the construction had been suspended for months before being resumed unlawfully. Congress MLA Arekapudi Gandhi alleged that municipal authorities had halted the project for four months and that the illegal restart, including cellar work extending into a neighboring building, caused the failure. He warned that similar unauthorized projects are widespread in Serilingampally and called for stricter enforcement.
