Two killed in tandem hang-glider crash during Coupe Icare near Grenoble

A tandem hang-glider crash during the annual Coupe Icare air-sports festival near Grenoble resulted in two fatalities. The accident happened at take-off when a 29-year-old pilot, well known in the free-flight community, and his 45-year-old passenger struck a cliff despite deploying a reserve parachute. The Isère prefecture reported that the high-mountain gendarmerie responded around 8:15 a.m., and the Grenoble prosecutor’s office opened an investigation handled by the air-transport gendarmerie brigade.

Organisers expressed sorrow, suspended the day's aerial program, and later allowed some activities to continue after consulting the victims’ families. Weather conditions were described as very good.
