Two Kuki Women Killed in Gun Attack in Manipur’s Tamenglong District

At approximately 3:30 pm on Tuesday, unknown armed assailants opened fire on two Kuki women working in their jhum fields in Muktakhan village, Tamenglong district, Manipur. The victims, 60-year-old Phalneichong Sitlhou (also known as Chonga Sitlhou) and Kimjalhing (also known as Kimnei Singson), were pronounced dead at the scene and later transferred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Assam. Police have launched an investigation but have not yet identified the perpetrators.

KIM alleges that the shooters were members of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah and the Zeliangrong United Front-Kamson faction, accusing them of targeting civilians. In response, the Kuki Zo Council issued a resolution to keep the remains of any Kuki-Zo victims of Naga armed groups in cold storage until further notice. The incident follows a series of recent killings and attacks that have heightened ethnic tensions across Manipur’s tribal districts.
