Two Landratsamt employees killed as suspect arrested after 12-hour siege in Berngau

A 45-year-old male and a 54-year-old female employee of the Landratsamt Neumarkt were shot dead during a weapons check, and the 60-year-old suspect was captured after a prolonged operation.

In the early hours of Thursday, a routine weapons control at a private residence in Berngau turned violent when a 60-year-old suspect shot two Landratsamt Neumarkt employees, a 45-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman, killing both. Police cordoned off the house and engaged the suspect in lengthy telephone negotiations, which he refused, insisting he possessed firearms and would not surrender peacefully. After several hours, a special-operations team, supported by an armored vehicle and a police helicopter, breached the building using explosives and gunfire.

The suspect sustained a light leg injury, was medically treated, and was arrested by officers from the Polizeipräsidium Oberpfalz. The incident lasted over twelve hours, prompting a large-scale response that included the Kripo Regensburg and the Staatsanwaltschaft Nürnberg-Fürth for subsequent investigation.
