Two men arrested after e-bike ridden against traffic on Belfast's West Link

At approximately 8.45 pm, PSNI officers were dispatched to west Belfast after three Sur-Ron style e-bikes were observed traveling at high speed. A stinger device disabled one bike, which was then left behind. The remaining two riders, a 17-year-old male and a 20-year-old man, continued toward the city centre, entered the West Link dual carriageway and rode the bike against the flow of traffic, with one passenger riding on the other's bike.

Police safely intercepted the e-bike, temporarily closing the West Link while emergency services completed collision procedures. Both men were arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle-taking, dangerous driving, and several related offences, and were taken to hospital for precautionary assessment. They remain in police custody. Superintendent Mark Conway emphasized that the police action prevented further danger and warned that illegal e-bike use on public roads will be robustly prosecuted.
