Two Men Detained in Greece for ATM Bombing and Vehicle Theft Scheme
Greek police arrested a 44-year-old and a 29-year-old suspected of running a gang that stole vehicles and detonated an ATM in Martino.
Police announced the detention of two local men, aged 44 and 29, as part of a probe into a gang accused of vehicle theft and an ATM explosion in Martino, south-central Fthiotida. The arrests, carried out on September 14 in the greater Athens region and Corinth prefecture, follow an investigation that traces the group’s formation to late 2023. According to authorities, the pair used solid explosives to destroy an ATM in December 2023, then employed a stolen crane-truck and van to remove the safe, which contained €43,420.
Searches of their homes yielded a handgun, marine flares, forged vehicle identification equipment, and €750 in cash, among other items. The men are also suspected of stealing cars in Kifissia and Metamorfosi between October and December 2023. This case adds to a series of recent ATM bombings and related robberies across Greece.
