Two minors referred for hate-crime charges after antisemitic graffiti at Brookside Elementary
Police say two youths, ages 12 and 13, were referred to the Marin County District Attorney for hate-crime charges after swastika graffiti was found at Brookside Elementary School.
Around 8:30 p.m. on October 3, antisemitic symbols, including a swastika, were discovered scrawled on the asphalt of Brookside Elementary School in a wealthy San Francisco suburb. The graffiti was removed that same night, but it sparked outrage and a rally by dozens of residents. Police determined the act qualified as a hate crime under California law because of the imagery and damage to property.
Two minors, aged 12 and 13, who are not enrolled at Brookside but reside within the Ross Valley School District, were identified and referred to the Marin County District Attorney’s Office for criminal charges. The investigation was supported by district officials and tips from community members, amid concerns about a surge in antisemitic activity linked to the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
