Two people killed as vehicle catches fire in A13 tunnel near Mantes-la-Ville

Around 17:50, a car moving from the province toward Paris caught fire inside the A13 tunnel near Mantes-la-Ville in the Yvelines region. The vehicle carried three people, all of whom were caught in the flames. Two of the occupants died at the site despite a rapid response, and the third was rescued but required urgent medical care.

The incident prompted the dispatch of thirty-one emergency vehicles and a total of seventy-four firefighters to the dangerous, covered section of the tunnel. While the fire was eventually extinguished, the accident caused a complete stoppage of traffic in both directions on the highway. The A13 has seen several serious incidents recently, including a June collision near Bouafles involving a Sanef road-signalling vehicle.
