Two police officers injured after grenade disarmed ignites their patrol car near Givors high school

Two officers monitoring the Aragon lycée in Givors were burned when a grenade they were disarming caused their vehicle to catch fire.

On a Friday morning in Givors, south of Lyon, two police officers stationed in a patrol car outside the Aragon lycée were injured while handling a grenade. The officers, aged 28 and 47, began the disarming process inside the vehicle; shortly thereafter the cabin caught fire, resulting in a thigh burn for one officer and a hand burn for the other. Firefighters responded to the blaze and the officers were transported to the Édouard Herriot hospital, which specializes in severe burns, under relative emergency conditions.

The area had experienced a week of student blockades and demonstrations, though the day of the incident was described as relatively calm after earlier mortar fire near the school. Police authorities in the Rhône department have not provided further details on the officers' health status.
