Two police officers released after a year in custody over alleged rape at Bobigny court
A 24-year-old and a 36-year-old police officer were freed under judicial supervision after being held for nearly a year on suspicion of raping a 26-year-old woman at the Bobigny tribunal.
Authorities charged a 24-year-old and a 36-year-old police officer with raping a 26-year-old woman who was in police custody at the tribunal judiciaire de Bobigny in the autumn of 2025. After almost a year of pre-trial detention, a chamber of instruction ordered their release under judicial supervision on Thursday, overruling a request from the parquet. The officers assert that the encounter was consensual.
Their legal representatives, Xavier Nogueras and Léa Canches, acknowledged the ruling but chose not to provide additional details. The second officer’s counsel declined to be identified in the report. The case remains under investigation.
Why it matters
The release raises questions about how sexual assault allegations involving law enforcement are handled in the French judicial system.
