Two Rincon brothers discovered dead after drowning in California's Trinity River

Authorities recovered the bodies of brothers Lex Rincon, 45, and Krishna Rincon, 18, from a hazardous stretch of the Trinity River in Humboldt County.

On Wednesday, Humboldt County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Tagmeyer Beach after a missing person was last seen fighting the current of the Trinity River the day before. While the scene still featured a parked vehicle, investigators performed an extensive sweep of the river and its bar, ultimately retrieving two bodies. The deceased were identified as 45-year-old Arcata resident Lex Rincon and his 18-year-old brother Krishna Rincon, also referred to as Ganesh, who hailed from New York.

Officials indicated that the circumstances align with an accidental drowning, though autopsies are scheduled for the following week. The brothers' extended family, primarily based in New York, must journey to Humboldt County to hold a memorial service. A close friend, Gregory Terry, expressed grief and described Lex as kind, determined, creative, and funny, while also noting his affection for his gentle brother.

Why it matters

The deaths highlight the dangers of strong river currents and the impact on families traveling long distances for mourning.
