A police investigation in Fejér county has led to the arrest of a 55-year-old father and his 34-year-old son from Seregélyes on accusations of human trafficking and forced labor. According to the inquiry, the duo began recruiting people without stable income or housing in 2018, compelling them to work in vegetable and fruit vending operations while providing little or no wages. The victims were frequently accommodated in cellars or auxiliary rooms without basic amenities such as water or heating, and were sometimes offered only alcohol and food as remuneration.
Reports indicate that the suspects treated the workers degradingly and inflicted physical abuse on several of them. The pair were taken into custody by local police and are currently under investigation, with authorities urging victims to come forward and report exploitation.
