Two suspects in Kaohsiung fatal assault returned from South Korea
A 25-year-old used-car dealer and a 23-year-old employee were brought back to Taiwan from South Korea and taken into custody over a deadly assault in Kaohsiung.
Lin, a 25-year-old used-car dealership owner, and Liu, a 23-year-old employee, were returned to Taiwan on Saturday and immediately detained by a special investigative team at Taoyuan International Airport. Their apprehension followed a request from Taiwan's Criminal Investigation Bureau to South Korean police, who located the pair after they fled the country on October 2. Investigators allege Lin coordinated a fatal assault at his dealership and Liu took part in the beating, though both men maintain their innocence.
The assault, which occurred around 1 a.m. on September 30, involved multiple assailants striking a coworker with hot-melt glue sticks and clubs over a dispute about NT$100,000. The victim’s body was later delivered to police by another suspect, Mu, who turned himself in. Additional suspects have been detained on murder suspicion, while a juvenile has been referred to juvenile court.
Why it matters
The arrests show cross-border cooperation in Taiwan's effort to hold key participants accountable for a lethal workplace assault.
