Two suspects re-arrested for allegedly aiding Iran in RAF Fairford terror scheme

A 24-year-old Briton and a 25-year-old UK-Iranian dual national were re-arrested on suspicion of assisting Iran’s intelligence service after a suspected terror plot near RAF Fairford.

Counter Terrorism Policing announced that a 24-year-old British citizen and a 25-year-old dual UK-Iranian national from Westminster have been re-arrested on suspicion of assisting Iran’s intelligence service under Section 3 of the National Security Act 2023. Both were initially detained after a suspected terror plot targeting RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on September 27, when three suspicious vans were intercepted and a quantity of petrol was seized.

The broader investigation has resulted in seven arrests, with five individuals still on police bail. Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor stated investigators consider Iranian state involvement highly likely and are probing the level and intent of that involvement. British leaders, including the Prime Minister and Andy Burnham, have accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of directing the plot, and a joint US-UK statement has condemned Tehran for related hostile actions. The case unfolds amid heightened tensions between the West and Iran over regional conflicts and energy security.
