Two tankers carrying Saudi crude hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz
Two oil carriers - the Saudi-flagged Sidr and the Liberian-flagged Senegal Prosperity - were struck by unknown projectiles while exiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Maritime trackers Marisks and Kpler said the Saudi-flagged supertanker Sidr was struck by an unidentified projectile near Khasab, Oman, at roughly 1952 UTC, and that minutes later the Liberian-flagged VLCC Senegal Prosperity was hit by three similar projectiles in the same vicinity. Each ship had taken on about 2 million barrels of Saudi crude at the Juaymah terminal the previous week. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency also recorded three projectiles hitting a tanker in the area, suggesting a coordinated attack.
Operators Bahri (Sidr) and Sinokor (Senegal Prosperity) have not responded to comment requests. No injuries were reported among the crews, but the events raise concerns about shipping security in the strategic waterway.
