Two teenagers face sentencing for the murder of Cork postman Barry Daly

Postman Barry Daly was discovered bleeding to death outside his residence on Rockview Terrace in Doneraile on 12 October 2025, having sustained a severe jaw injury caused by a golf club. A 17-year-old male was convicted of his murder following a retrial at the Central Criminal Court in Cork, after an earlier jury could not reach a verdict. During the first trial, the teenager pleaded guilty to manslaughter, a plea accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A separate 16-year-old male is scheduled to receive a manslaughter sentence for his role in the incident. Justice Siobhan Lankford noted that the murder profoundly altered the Doneraile community, describing Daly as an exceptional and kind individual whose life was cut tragically short.
