Two teens detained after stolen car driven opposite direction on Dublin's M50
Police arrested two late-teens after a stolen vehicle was driven the wrong way on the M50 and collided with a Garda car, with no injuries reported.
An early-morning report of a stolen car in Dublin's Coolock area prompted a Garda investigation. Later, on Thursday evening, officers from the Mountjoy and Blanchardstown traffic units observed the stolen vehicle traveling the wrong way on the M50 and in surrounding neighborhoods such as Whitehall, Finglas and Ballymun. The pursuit culminated at the junction of the M1 and the R132, where the car rammed a Garda patrol vehicle before being brought to a controlled stop.
No one was injured in the incident. Two males in their late teens were taken into custody at the scene and transferred to a station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region North. One suspect has been charged and is due to appear before the Dublin Children’s Court, while the other was released pending a referral to the Youth Diversion Programme. Gardaí said the investigation remains ongoing.
