Travelers were escorted onto the tarmac stairs and subsequently bused to the terminal, where a substitute aircraft was arranged for the Charlotte, North Carolina, route. The flight ultimately touched down nearly four hours later than scheduled, according to flight tracking data.
The FAA announced it will investigate the incident, adding that it marks the fifth reported tire problem at O'Hare in the current month. Earlier incidents this month involved other American and United Airlines flights experiencing tire failures during landing or takeoff. Chicago O'Hare officials have not yet commented on the series of events.
