At roughly 11,000 feet, they reported their situation to authorities at 10:20 p.m. on Monday, noting they were freezing and unable to continue down. Their equipment lacked adequate cold-weather gear, sustenance, and water, and nighttime temperatures fell to 14-16 °F.
