Two White Supremacists Charged in Hate-Crime Assault on Marines and Bystanders in Oceanside

The Justice Department announced federal hate-crime charges against Austin Yoho and Daniel Burns for a racially motivated attack on two Marines and a civilian at Oceanside Pier.

The Department of Justice filed federal hate-crime charges against Austin Yoho and Daniel Burns, who belong to the Southern California white-supremacist organization Coors 88, for a violent attack at Oceanside Pier last summer. The pair, together with Johnny Lee Lane, assaulted a Black-Asian man who had just attended a family funeral, then returned minutes later to beat two Marines—identified as T.J. and E.H.—with racial slurs.

The assaults left the civilian with a concussion and the Marines with head injuries, including an orbital fracture. Yoho and Burns also face obstruction charges for providing false statements to police and the FBI. Lane pleaded guilty, was released on bond and will be sentenced in January, while Yoho and Burns are scheduled for a trial on Oct. 30.
