Two young men jailed after accidental shooting derails planned attack in West Midlands
A 23-year-old was sentenced to 13 years for a firearm offence after mistakenly shooting his accomplice, while a third participant received a 42-month term for drug offences.
In the early hours of November 23, a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander was parked on St Paul's Road in Smethwick when a gun accidentally discharged, wounding passenger Asad Khan in the leg. Khan, 23, was later sentenced to 13 years for firearm possession with intent to endanger life, as well as for cocaine possession and driving offences. His alleged partner, 19-year-old Adam Liaqat, who fired the weapon, remains unsentenced.
A third suspect, Yakuba Sawaneh, 19, received a 42-month term for heroin and crack cocaine possession with intent to supply after discarding drugs from a Honda Accord during a police chase. Police investigations revealed the vehicle had been stolen the previous evening and that the trio had planned a shooting that never materialised.
