Ty Simpson’s touchdown caps Rams’ preseason sweep as they gear up for Australia

The Los Angeles Rams secured a 20-18 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in Thursday night’s preseason finale, completing a flawless 3-0 preseason run. Coach Sean McVay rested all starters, and even backup Bennett Stenson did not play; third-string quarterback Ty Simpson threw an 11-yard touchdown to Brennan Presley that put the Rams ahead. Harrison Mevis contributed two 27-yard field goals, while Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert appeared for only two series, including a 65-yard strike to Quentin Johnston.

Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker missed a 49-yard attempt before halftime and later hit a 34-yard field goal. The Rams extended the lead in the fourth quarter with a Matthew Caldwell pass to Dean Connors, and the Chargers narrowed the gap with a Gregory Desrosiers run and a two-point conversion by DJ Uiagalelei. Minor injuries were reported for both sides, and the Rams now travel to Melbourne, Australia, to open the regular season.
